She expelled her father from the party on 2. August 2. 01. 5 after he made new controversial statements.[1. She has also relaxed some political positions of the party, advocating for civil unions for same- sex couples instead of her party's previous opposition to legal recognition of same- sex partnerships, accepting unconditional abortion and withdrawing the death penalty from her platform.[1.

In 1. 97. 6, when Marine was eight, a bomb meant for her father exploded in the stairwell outside the family's apartment as they slept.[2. She has an apartment in Hénin- Beaumont. In 2. 01. 0, she also bought a house with Aliot in Millas.[3. Early political career[edit]1. Rise within the National Front[edit]Marine Le Pen joined the FN in 1. In 1. 99. 8, she acquired her first political mandate when she was elected regional councillor in the Nord- Pas- de- Calais. In the same year she joined the FN's juridical branch, which she led until 2. In 2. 00. 0, she became president of Generations Le Pen, a loose association close to the party aimed at "de- demonizing the Front National".[2. She became a member the FN Executive Committee (French: bureau politique) in 2. FN in 2. 00. 3.[2. In 2. 00. 6 she managed the presidential campaign of her father, Jean- Marie Le Pen. In 2. 00. 7, she became one of the two executive vice- presidents of the FN, with responsibility for training, communication and publicity.[2. Leadership campaign[edit]Early in 2. Le Pen expressed her intention to run for leader of the FN, saying that she hoped to make the party "a big popular party that addresses itself not only to the electorate on the right but to all the French people".[3]On 3 September 2. Cuers, Var.[3. 3] During a meeting in Paris on 1. November 2. 01. 0, she said that her goal was "not only to assemble our political family. It consists of shaping the Front National as the center of grouping of the whole French people", adding that in her view the FN leader should be the party's candidate in the 2. She spent four months campaigning for the FN leadership, holding meetings with FN members in 5. All the other departments were visited by one of her official supporters.[3. During her final meeting of the campaign in Hénin- Beaumont on 1. December 2. 01. 0, she claimed that the FN would present the real debate of the next presidential campaign.[3. Her candidacy was endorsed by a majority of senior figures in the party,[3. Jean- Marie Le Pen, her father and the founder of the party.[3. On several occasions through her campaign she ruled out any political alliance with the Union for a Popular Movement.[4. She also distanced herself from some of Jean- Marie Le Pen's most controversial statements,[4. While her father had attracted controversy by saying that the gas chambers were "a detail of the history of World War II", she described them as "the height of barbarism".[4. In December 2. 01. January 2. 01. 1, FN members voted by post to elect their new president and the members of the Central Committee. The party held a congress at Tours on 1. January 2. 01. 1.[4. On 1. 6 January 2. Marine Le Pen was elected as the new president of the FN with 6. Bruno Gollnisch),[2. Jean- Marie Le Pen became honorary chairman. Controversy[edit]Marine Le Pen received substantial media attention during the campaign as a result of comments, made during a speech to party members in Lyon on 1. December 2. 01. 0, in which she compared the blocking of public streets and squares in French cities (in particular rue Myrha in the 1. Paris) for Muslim prayers with the Nazi occupation of France. Her exact words were: For those who want to talk a lot about World War II, if it's about occupation, then we could also talk about it (Muslim prayers in the streets), because that is occupation of territory .. It is an occupation of sections of the territory, of districts in which religious laws apply .. There are of course no tanks, there are no soldiers, but it is nevertheless an occupation and it weighs heavily on local residents.[4. Her comments were widely criticised by media commentators across the political spectrum.[4. The Representative Council of French Jewish Institutions (CRIF),[5. French Council of Muslim Faith (CFCM)[5. International League against Racism and Anti- Semitism (LICRA)[5. MRAP[5. 9] and the French Human Rights League (LDH)[6. The imam of the Great Mosque of Paris and former president of the CFCM, Dalil Boubakeur, commented that though her parallel was questionable and to be condemned, she had asked a valid question.[6. A member of the FN's Executive Committee, Louis Aliot, criticised "the attempted manipulation of opinion by communitarian groups and those really responsible for the current situation in France".[6. On 1. 3 December 2. Le Pen reasserted her statement during a press conference at the FN headquarters in Nanterre.[6. After Jean- François Kahn's comments on BFM TV on 1. December 2. 01. 0, she accused the Élysée Palace of organising "state manipulation" with the intention of demonizing her in public opinion.[6. On 1. 5 December 2. Lyon court acquitted her of "inciting hatred", ruling that her statement "did not target all of the Muslim community" and was protected "as a part of freedom of expression".[6. Leadership of the National Front[edit]De- demonization of the FN[edit]From a general point of view, Marine Le Pen is often judged more moderate than her father. A part of the French electorate considers her positions more nuanced, polished and detoxified than Jean- Marie Le Pen's "provocations". Her smiling, calm image contrasts with much of the stereotypes generally attributed to her political family.[6. At the beginning of her media rise, she often talked about her particular treatment as the daughter of "Le Pen" and of the 1. France since World War II).[6. It has been seen as a way to humanize her party.[6. Marine Le Pen in the traditional Jeanne d'Arc march, 3 May 2. For example, Bernard- Henri Lévy, a strong opponent of the FN, talked about "a far- right with a human face".[7. Journalist Michèle Cotta claims that the fact she is a young woman condemning racism and refusing her father's "faults" (notably his enjoyment of shocking other people) contributed to her strategy of de- demonization of the National Front.[7. References to World War II or to the French colonial wars are absent from her speeches, which is often looked on as a generation gap.[7. She distanced herself from her father on the gas chambers he famously called "a detail in the history of World War II", saying that she "didn't share the same vision of these events".[7. L'Express wrote that the expulsion of Jean- Marie Le Pen in 2.

It also won the Evening Standard Award as well as the Critics Circle Award and the Theatregoers Choice Award, all for Best Musical.[7]The original cast album was released on 1. January 2. 00. 6. On 1. 2 May 2. 00. Billys appeared together in a performance of the musical to celebrate its first anniversary. The three rotated the role during the performance and were joined at the end by Elton John.[citation needed] In 2. Stephen Daldry, the audience were given the choice to decide whether the song "Merry Christmas, Maggie Thatcher" would be included in the performance that day, since the lyrics include the sentence: "We all celebrate today 'cause it's one day closer to your death". As only 3 audience members voted against it, the performance went ahead as normal.[9][1. On 3 July 2. 01. 5, 1. Nat Sweeney from Birmingham became the forty- first actor to play the role of Billy, making him the 1. November 2. 00. 8.[2. The London production's creative team directed and designed the Broadway production.[7] The title role was rotated among three young actors, David Álvarez, Kiril Kulish, Trent Kowalik, the last of whom had previously played the role in London.[2. The supporting cast included Haydn Gwynne, reprising her role of Mrs. Wilkinson from the London production, and Gregory Jbara as Billy's father. At first, the three and a half year gap between the show’s West End triumph and the Broadway opening suggested a lack of American interest, but Broadway critics agreed that the delayed opening allowed the production to resonate far more than expected with American audiences.[2. According to critic Ben Brantley, America was “newly chastened by severe financial woes and fears”, giving Billy Elliot a “resonance it might not have had in 2. Additionally, the show presents a breaking away from gender norms through Billy’s dancing in a hyper masculine environment.[2. This gave audiences an alternative message to engage with if the political context was not fully understood. Billy Elliot, therefore, is extremely successful in its ability to articulate conflicting ideologies of community versus individualism, counterpointing Billy’s personal accomplishments with his community’s economic decline.[2. The production received rave reviews: [2. Time called it a "triumph"; critic Liz Smith termed it "breathtakingly brilliant" and "absolutely, unequivocally awesome"; the Daily News said it was "so exhilarating that at times you feel like leaping"; [3. New York Post said it was "almost like being in love" and termed it "amusing, perfect and passionate" and "the best show you will ever see"; and the Los Angeles Times called it a "global theatrical phenomenon".[3. It has also been very financially successful, with $2. The production received fifteen Tony Award nominations, tying with The Producers for the most nominations ever received by a Broadway show,[3. The original three boys in the lead role jointly won a Tony Award for Best Leading Actor in a Musical. The production sold strongly and recouped its original investment of $1. The Broadway production closed on 8 January 2. The Life And Death Of Peter Sellers CastThe Life and Death of Peter Sellers by Stephen Hopkins |Geoffrey Rush, Charlize Theron, Emily Watson | 8. DVD. The often- troubled life of one of the greatest comic actors in the history of the British cinema provides the basis for this biopic. Peter Sellers (Geoffrey Rush) was raised by a domineering mother (Miriam Margolyes) and meek father (Peter Vaughan), and at an early age discovered he liked to hide behind the emotional curtain of playing a character. In time, Sellers put this skill to use as an actor, and discovered he had a great gift for comedy. In the late '5. 0s, Sellers rose to fame on the wildly popular radio series The Goon Show alongside Spike Milligan (Edward Tudor Pole) and Harry Secombe (Steve Pemberton), but as his success on radio gave way to stardom on the big screen, Sellers' ego began to get the better of him. While working on a film with Sophia Loren (Sonia Aquino), Sellers fell in love with the great Italian beauty, and eventually left his wife Anne (Emily Watson) to pursue her; when it became clear that Loren wanted nothing to do with him, Sellers fell into an affair with her stand- in instead. Professionally, Sellers career hits a new high when he agrees to take a role in a picture being directed by American filmmaker Blake Edwards (John Lithgow) called The Pink Panther, and personally he finds a new love with the beautiful Britt Ekland (Charlize Theron). But Sellers' mood swings eventually put paid to their marriage, and while he finds commercial success as a funnyman onscreen, he achieves little in the way of happiness or respect. Berkeley protests: Hundreds rally after Coulter talk canceled, at least 6 arrested. Hundreds of people gathered Thursday near the University of California, Berkeley campus to protest a canceled appearance by conservative speaker Ann Coulter, with at least 6 arrests reported so far. University police erected barricades and refused to let any protesters enter the campus. At least 6 people were arrested — one for obstructing an officer and wearing a mask to evade police, and another for possessing a knife, Berkeley police Officer Byron White told the Associated Press. Police in riot gear had prepared for possible violence between supporters and opponents of Coulter, but there were no major confrontations as the raucous rally wrapped up in the late afternoon. Coulter told Fox News' Tucker Carlson on "Tucker Carlson Tonight" on Thursday that Berkeley claimed the threat of violence is what led to the cancellation, but she's not buying it."There are ways of dealing with violence," Coulter said. We do have a police force."Several hundred people gathered for the afternoon event supporting Coulter at Martin Luther King, Jr. Civic Center Park in downtown Berkeley.“Berkeley, as you know all along, they’ve been changing their position every five minutes,” Coulter said to Fox News on Wednesday. It’s like a game of musical chairs and whenever the music stops the answer is, ‘no, she can’t speak.’ My allies whom I love are on the same side, they ran away, they gave in. Dirks said in a letter sent to campus on Wednesday. Berkeley student Joseph Pagadara, 1. AP he had been worried about violence and added that the university is caught in the middle of the country's political divide."Both sides are so intolerant of each other. We are a divided country. We need to listen to each other but we're each caught in our own bubbles," he said. While the afternoon rally ended without serious conflict, police at one point formed a human wall in the street separating anti- Trump protesters from the park where pro- Trump groups were gathered. Anti- Coulter protesters at the park held a banner that read: "It's not about 'free speech,' it's about bigots trying to normalize hate."Earlier in the day, dozens of police wearing flak jackets and carrying 4. Sproul Plaza while a small group of protesters condemning Coulter staged a small rally outside campus. Officers took selfies with students in an attempt to lighten the mood. Gavin Mc. Innes, co- founder of Vice Media and founder of the pro- Trump "Proud Boys," spoke at the park gathering later in the day. He said America doesn't have an obligation to take people from other countries."We are here because Ann Coulter got canceled," he said. She is one of the most inspiring writers in America today. She is an American hero."Wilson Grafstrom, an 1. Menlo Park, said it was "a shame" she couldn't speak in the home of the free speech movement. He wore a military grade helmet with a "Make America Great Again" sticker across the back, goggles, gas mask and knee pads. He blamed Coulter opponents for forcing him to gear up for problems. Many at the park rally about a mile from the university's main Sproul Plaza also wore military grade helmets and body armor. Some had "Build That Wall" or Trump stickers across their headgear. One man had duct tape reading "Berkeley" over his mouth. Protesters from the International Socialist Organization held what they called n "Alt Right Delete" rally with signs reading "Refuse Fascism" and "Fascist free campus." The group endorses free speech, and some members oppose the way Coulter and others have co- opted the free speech movement."I don't like Ann Coulter's views, but I don't think in this case the right move was to shut her down," graduate student Yevgeniy Melguy told the Associated Press, who held a sign that read "Immigrants Are Welcome Here."Although the school is committed to defending free speech, Dirks said, they also need to protect students.“The university has two non- negotiable commitments, one to Free Speech the other to the safety of our campus community.”Berkeley officials had previously cited “very specific intelligence” that Coulter and students could be endangered.“I’m not just some homeless person wondering onto the square, but I’d be allowed to speak then too,” Coulter said. They (Berkeley) are really outside the mainstream, they are publicly funded, forget this is where free speech movement started, the amount of money they get from the state and federal government. All of the people who should have been standing up for the First Amendment here, all ran away with their tails tucked between their legs.”ANN COULTER’S BACKERS AT UC BERKELEY FILE SUITOfficials at UC Berkeley said last week they feared renewed violence on campus if Coulter followed through with plans to speak. They cited "very specific intelligence" of threats that could endanger Coulter and students, as Berkeley becomes a platform for extremist protesters on both sides of the political spectrum. Efforts by the university to cancel or delay the Coulter event dealt a blow to Berkeley's image as a bastion of tolerance and free speech. Earlier this month, a bloody brawl broke out in downtown Berkeley at a pro- Trump protest that featured speeches by members of the white nationalist right. They clashed with a group of Trump critics who called themselves anti- fascists. In February, violent protesters forced the cancellation of a speech by right- wing writer Milo Yiannopoulos, who like Coulter was invited by campus Republicans. The Berkeley College Republicans and the Young America's Foundation, a conservative group that had helped book Coulter's campus speaking events, both pulled their support Tuesday citing fears of violence. They blamed the university for failing to ensure protection of conservative speakers. Read more from KTVU. The Associated Press contributed to this report. Koenigsmark (1. 95. IMDb. Edit.
